PA Forum: Science in the Middle School

Location: MS Rotunda
The Middle School science team and Head of Middle School Susan Palmer will present an impressive overview of Greenhill’s 5th-8th grade science curriculum including Earth and space science, life science, physical science, and engineering and design. How is science integrated in a cross-curricular program? Which types of science are taught in each grade? What is STEM and how do students practice this in the classroom? What is Exploratory Design? What are Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and how are they incorporated in Greenhill’s curriculum? Teaching students to think like scientists requires both a skills-based and inquiry-based approach to solving problems. Teachers will explain how students learn the relevance of science in their lives through project based learning (PBL) and hands-on activities. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore science in the Middle School.

Presenters: Middle School Department Chair Heather Haas, Science teachers Stacey Wink, Megan Van Wart, Sarah Howell, and Susan Eve; Science Department Chair Jeff Funkhouser, STEM Coordinator Don Meyers, and Head of Middle School Susan Palmer
