Greenhill Debate Students Shine at Early Season Competitions

Greenhill debate students started their season strong with two competitions this month.
 
37TH GREENHILL FALL CLASSIC DEBATE TOURNAMENT
Greenhill students competed at the 37th Greenhill Fall Classic Debate Tournament on September 15 – 18. They did incredibly well in the Round Robin and Fall Classic portions.
 
In the Round Robin, Gautam Chamarthy ’25 and Rory Liu ’26 competed in the policy division of the Round Robin and were fourth in their division. In the Lincoln Douglas division, Adam Kesselman ’24 received second place in his division, and Seth Lee ’24 was third in his respective division.
 
At the Fall Classic portion of the tournament in the World Schools Gold (varsity) division, the team of Natalie Stachowiak ’24, Emily Hu ’24, Jeannette Yang ’24, Varun Mukund ’25, and Kaden Alibhai ‘24 reached the quarterfinals and lost a 2-1 split decision to a USA Debate team that included Sophia Li ’24. Sherry Zhang ’25 was the top individual speaker of the Gold division of World Schools and added a first-place finish debating on the USA Debate Gold team.
 
In the Green (novice) division, Carys Diamond ’27 was the top individual speaker competing in her first tournament. The team of Carys Diamond ’27, Parker Lynn ’26, Aatif Dawala ’26, Benjy Beckman ’26, and Vijay Naidu ’26 won the Green division.
 
35TH ANNUAL GRAPEVINE CLASSIC SPEECH AND DEBATE TOURNAMENT
Forty-five Greenhill Debate students competed at the 35th Annual Grapevine Classic Speech and Debate Tournament to kick off their season in early September. The team won first place Debate Sweepstakes, made it to the finals in half of the divisions they competed in, had 27 students competing in elimination rounds, and earned 13 top 10 speaker awards!
